WRF-CMAQ Air Quality Forecasting System
The high-resolution air quality forecasting system is comprised of three major components: meteorology, emission, and chemical transport models. The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model version 4.2 (Skamarock et al., 2019) was used to generate hourly meteorological fields to drive emission and air quality modeling.
US Daily Forecast Outcomes

George Mason University provides 24-hour experimental air quality forecast for the continental US from 12 UTC today to 11 UTC tomorrow. The forecast is based on the 3km GMU-CMAQ model prediction. The GMU air quality forecast system is capable of forecasting ozone and PM2.5 from both regular sources and from extreme events such as dust storm and wildfires. The dust emission is calculated by the FENGSHA scheme, and the biomass burning emission is from GBBEPx dataset.

PM2.5 is mapped as different concentrations in micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3) and ozone is mapped as different concentrations in parts per billion per volume of air (ppbV).
